Rights Respecting School

January 2025:

We are very proud to announce we have been awarded the UNICEF BRONZE award for Rights Respecting Schools.

We are now working towards our SILVER award and focusing on :

 

Article 12

Children have the right to give their opinions freely on issues that affect them. Adults should listen and take children seriously.

 

Article 13

Children have the right to share freely with others what they learn, think and feel, by talking, drawing, writing or in any other way unless it harms other people.

 

Article 23

Every child with a disability should enjoy the best possible life in society. Governments should remove all obstacles for children with disabilities to become independent and to participate actively in the community.

 

Students will be attending the Town Hall to meet local councillors and learn about their democratic rights. 

 

Autumn term 2024:
RSA Bronze Award

This term, students have been working towards achieving the Rights Respecting Schools Bronze Award.

·         Students created their own steering group and chose the rights that they wanted to the school to focus on.

·         Teachers completed lessons with students around Article 31- Right to play, relax and enjoy cultural activities.

·         Students in the steering group starting a Friday morning Yoga class supported by Jay Griggs. Currently, pupils in Secondary and FEC are welcome to attend.

·         FEC students in the steering group are supporting Secondary students to access the new playground equipment at lunchtimes.
